Meteorologist's epic clap back to body shamer goes viral: 'I like pasta, bread and cheese too much'

Newscaster Tracy Hinson is not here for your body shaming.

The St. Louis meteorologist recently shared a now-viral message she received from a viewer, who advised her that "she needs a girdle for the stomach overhang."

"Do you ever watch yourself giving the weather report?" the message read. "Seems that you needa girdle for the stomach overhang which shortens the front of your dresses. Today was not the first time I have noticed this. Maybe you should wear a top that covers the bulge in your stomach."

The message, which Hinson tweeted about on Oct. 11, has since gone viral due to her epic clap back.

"Dear Mary, yes I do watch my air checks," Hinson replied. "NO I will not be strapping myself into a girdle because you don’t like my belly. I like pasta, bread and cheese too much to obsess over my weight. I like my body and that’s all that really matters," while adding in the hashtag #nomorefatshaming.

The reporter then tweeted her response alongside a photo of herself enjoying a bowl of spaghetti. Her dignified -- and frankly relatable -- reaction has since gone viral, racking up over 20,000 likes since it was first shared.

"I’m so glad you stood up for yourself and rose above," shared fellow newscaster Jenn Sullivan. "I had pasta twice this week, and in honor of Mary, I’m gonna go make some spaghetti with butter," commented another fan.

Hinson has since responded to the words of support she's received since the story was picked up by the news.

"Grateful and completely touched by the support I’ve gotten from my friends at KSDK News and total strangers who wrote me with words of encouragement," she shared on Twitter this week.
