How to Get Metallic “Meteor Shower” Eyes, According to the Off-White Runway

Tonight in Paris, Virgil Abloh staged a celestial event of sorts inside the parking lot of the famous Centre Pompidou. Hailing his Spring 2020 collection “Meteor Shower,” the futuristic wonders of outer space were felt in the streamlined silhouettes and cutout detail of the clothes, from the stark white bodysuits to the muted asymmetrically draped mock-neck dresses. Taking a similar no-frills approach, hairstylist Jawara Wauchope enhanced the natural texture of each model in the dynamic cast: Olivia Vinten’s voluminous blonde mane was out in full force; Axelle Doue’s smooth silver lengths fell over one brow insouciantly. And Janaye Furman’s close-cropped dark curls were teased out to buoyant effect. It continued in the same vein for makeup—save for a few major swathes of sparkle.

“I know I tend to keep [the models] bare in general, but I’m keeping them even more bare this season because I think the clothes are really, really pure,” explained makeup artist Fara Homidi backstage while supercharging Adut Akech’s complexion with a layer of Weleda’s Renewing Day Cream and grooming her brows with clear gel. “I really just want to showcase the skin as is. Beautiful, pure, pore-less skin.” The final step for most was a slick of “super-nude gloss,” Homidi mixing nude pigment with MAC’s Lip Glass to give it a high-shine effect. “Virgil really loves gloss on the lips, so it’s a nice through line each season,” she explained. But nodding to the show’s intergalactic theme more emphatically, four models—including Gigi Hadid and Nina Marker—had their gazes framed by a dusting of metallic silver glitter and loose octagon sequins, which went from the inner corners of the eyes and across the bridge of the nose to “add to the trippy vibe” of the show. “I’m going in a little bit rough, then fixing the shape as I go,” explained Homidi, brushing clear adhesive and layered holographic flecks between Hadid’s blue-green eyes.

While there was undeniable beauty in the raw simplicity of the hair and makeup, given that Abloh drew inspiration from the cosmos, a touch of iridescent shimmer was practically written in the stars.
