The spinoff to the Metal Gear series, Metal Gear Survive, now has a release date after being delayed out of 2017. It's coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC in February 2018, with any pre-orders including the Day 1 Survival Pack, filled with in-game extras.

Moving away from the allegories to war and the current political landscape around the world, Metal Gear Survive takes an alternate path from the story of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Rather than moving on into the story of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, a wormhole sucks up the player into a wasteland-like world of "biological threats and hostile environments," but mainly zombies.

It combines both single-player and multiplayer co-op, with a single-player campaign and a co-op mode that interact with each other to grant resources and weapons that can be used to find survival a little easier. Many of the game's features are taken from or based on features in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, such as the Fulton balloon, with new gear on top of that and a different base-building mechanic to more accurately reflect the survival aspect of the game.

In the US, Metal Gear Survive is coming out on Xbox One, PS4, and PC February 20, 2018, while the rest of the world will get the game on February 22, 2018. For pre-ordering the game, you'll get the Survival Pack, which includes:

  • 4 Gold-plated weapons: Bat, Sledgehammer, Survival Machete and Survival Spear

  •  4 Metallic survival scarves: Green, Blue, Pink and Silver

  • 2 Gestures: “Thumbs Up” and “Happy” (these look to be like emotes)

  •  Mother Base Nameplate

  • "BOXMAN [THE ORANGE]” accessory (a parody of the Metal Gear series' cardboard box)

  • “Kabuki” face paint

Despite advertisements saying the game can be pre-ordered now, digital and physical versions of the game don't seem to be available for pre-order in the UK as of yet. We'll update when they are.
