"How I Met Your Mother” Star Alyson Hannigan Reveals She Let “This Is Us” Film its Final Season in Her Home

It’s not an everyday occurrence that two popular TV series have a crossover event of sorts in real life, but, when it comes to This Is Us and How I Met Your Mother, there is an exception. Actress Alyson Hannigan—who played Lily Aldrin on the latter series—recently revealed that her very own home was used as a filming location for the final season of This Is Us.
Just how did this turn of events happen? Well, as it turns out, Hannigan’s Los Angeles dwelling is no stranger to Hollywood—it was rented out for other film appearances long before the actress lived here. "I think my house's résumé is probably longer than mine," Hannigan proclaimed on SiriusXM's The Michelle Collins Show.
She added that when she and her family moved into the abode, they initially thought they would never want it to be a filming location—but she ended up changing her mind because they received filming requests at least twice a month. "The house is just known," Hannigan says. Her neighbor happens to be the director of This Is Us, so, she professed, "If we are ever going to [let our home become a filming location], we would do it for that show because it's so good and [with] long-running shows, the crews are always very respectful.'"
The best part of renting out the house? Hannigan reveals that by the time the shoot was complete, numerous flaws in the dwelling were fixed. “...They were touching up some paint or whatever, and there was clearly like one of my kids' handprints on a wall, and they're like, 'Would you like us to do that as well?' And I'm like, 'I know that wasn't from you, but yeah, thank you!' So they fixed the damage that I had done," the actress professed.
And while the final season of This Is Us won’t premiere until early 2022, we already know which character’s house is played by Hannigan’s pad. *Spoilers ahead*
According to Entertainment Weekly, the dwelling will act as the one that Rebecca (played by Mandy Moore) tells Kevin (Justin Hartley) to build as a tribute to Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia).
Needless to say, we'll definitely be tuning in to see Hannigan's home play a starring role in This Is Us next year!
