The Met Gala Came Back With a Force Last Night

The Met Gala came back with a force last night, after having been one of the first major events to be canceled due to the pandemic last year.

On Monday, celebrities stepped out for fashion's biggest night out, in their best versions of the theme: "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion." And from Jennifer Lopez's cowboy hat to Emily Blunt's Statue of Liberty-inspired look, this year's attendees showed out, giving us varying visions of what American fashion looks like.

For some attendees, the loose theme of "America" conjured up the opportunity to make political statements — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attended the event in a white gown designed by Brother Vellies' Aurora James, which read "TAX THE RICH" splashed across the back in red. Cara Delevingne wore a white vest reading "PEG THE PATRIARCHY" in red lettering, while Megan Rapinoe carried a purse that said "IN GAY WE TRUST."

Fan-favorite Megan Fox made her Met Gala debut last night in a red-hot lace-up Dundas dress, complete with a high slit and hip cutouts, making for a sexy twist on the classic pin-up look.

With so many looks to choose from (Rihanna's beanie! Billie Eilish's Barbie doll gown! Kaia Gerber's skirt!), it's impossible to choose a standout moment, but suffice to say, it was a night to remember.

And it's not over just yet — next year's Met Gala theme is set to be somewhat of a continuation of last night's, focusing on "In America: An Anthology of Fashion." This will be the first two-part Met Gala, meaning we've only just gotten started.
