A new high jewelry collection from the beloved French brand Messika Paris is debuting this week. The collection, Voltige—which means aerobatics—is comprised of 18 total designs across four categories within the collection: Trapézistes, Illusionistes, Équilibristes, and Acrobates.

The collection pushes the aesthetic of the brand forward with its asymmetrical designs and stones floating in settings that almost disappear, allowing the gems to appear as if they are simply hovering against one's skin.

These designs were born out of the maison's reflection of the current situation at hand, how we as humans all relate to each other, and out of a need to return to basics. Always inspired by the ideas of balance and imbalance, the brand's founder and leader, Valérie Messika, sought with this new collection to bring a sense of lightness to high jewelry by exploring the movement and energy of the diamond. Just as aerial dancers move together in sequence, so do the diamonds of this collection.

“The jewelry that I design must meet a dual necessity: that of transcending the diamond, and above all, exalting the female body and its freedom of movement," says Messika.

Each piece of jewelry starts with a gouaché painting in Messika's design process—that is, once a sketch has been approved, which can take up to 100 drafts before deciding on the right one. The piece then begins to be meticulously constructed in the atelier's high jewelry workshop, all while focusing on modernity in design and innovation, true to the house's ethos.
