ICYMI: There’s a presidential election coming up in just a few days. And, while there’s a lot you can do to prepare, like learning as much as possible about the candidates before you vote, checking your voter registration, and encouraging friends and families to fill out their ballots, many people are struggling with low-level anxiety around the day.

Well, for all you astrology-loving voters out there, the universe is here with a message: This is going to be mentally tough, but it’ll all be okay. That's because Mercury, the planet of action, goes direct on November 3, 2020. But, ya know, there’s a bit more to it than that. Here’s what else you can expect on Election Day, according to Donna Page, a certified astrologer in Atlanta.

Wait, what does it mean when Mercury goes direct?

In astrological terms, going direct means that a planet is moving forward at its usual speed, a.k.a. it's the opposite of when a planet goes retrograde. (ICYDK, Mercury has been in retrograde since Oct. 13.) Going direct isn’t unique to Mercury—every other planet does it at one point or another—but it means something different depending on the planet and which zodiac sign it’s going direct in. On the 3rd, Mercury is going direct in the sign of Libra.

How will Mercury going direct impact Election Day?

For starters, Mercury is going direct in Libra, a zodiac sign that’s focused on balance and fairness. That’s good, right? Totally. And because Mercury is so focused on action, you (and everybody else) will be motivated to get out and do your part to make your voice heard this election.

But Mercury is also going direct while it is square (i.e. at a 90 degree angle) to Saturn, the planet of structure and meaning. This can produce some tension and stir up serious thoughts and even some bummed-out feelings.

"No matter who wins the election, some of the country is going to think it was unfair or be unhappy about the outcome," Page says.

Astrologers are currently debating when the universe thinks the election will be decided. "Some think things won’t be decided on Election Night because of the Saturn restriction," Page says. "But Mercury direct signals that, by the next day, we’re moving forward."

How will Mercury going direct impact your future?

It really depends. The big focus here is on Election Day, because obviously that will have some pretty important after-effects, whether your candidate wins or not.

On the one hand, the universe is sending some solid fairness vibes, which will hopefully help ensure that everything goes smoothly. On the other, the universe has made it pretty clear that you’ll either be totally stoked about the outcome or pretty upset. There’s not a lot of middle ground here.

Just know this: Whatever the outcome, it will ultimately be okay.
