Mental Health Awareness Event to be held May 2 at Walton & Tipton Township Public Library

Apr. 30—The Walton & Tipton Township Public Library will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness event from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The event, sponsored by the United Way of Cass County, will feature a variety of activities. Mental health organizations and support groups will be available to offer educational material and set up sessions for future counseling sessions or group meetings.

Within the community room, several participants will have booths set up. These participants include the Walton & Tipton Township Public Library, the United Way of Cass County, Four County Counseling Center, Cass County Zero Suicide Task Force, Logansport State Hospital, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Mental Health America Wabash Valley Region Delphi, Cass County Department of Child Services, Cass County Health Department Liaison for Schools, Youth Services Alliance, Project Hope 929, Stand Up Cass County, SCAN: Preparing Parents, Protecting Children, and Doctoral Candidate/Suicidologist Stephen Nichols.

A video about Kevin Hines' survival, a man who attempted suicide but changed his mind on his way down from jumping, will be shown on the main floor from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.. If you are unable to watch the video at the event, viewing times will be offered over the next 30 days. Times can be set up for a private or semi-private viewing.

Stephen Nichols, the clinical director for Family Service Association in Howard County, will also be sharing insights into mental health education and suicide prevention, the press release says.
