Memorial Day beach cleanup on Anna Maria Island

BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — You can start Memorial Day at the beach in Bradenton with a community beach cleanup beginning at 9 a.m.

Registration is at 8:30a.m. in the South Coquina Beach parking lot at 1465 Gulf Drrive South.

Most people have the day off work and kids are home from school for the holiday. You can take the time to reflect on our nation’s heroes and the sacrifices they made at the beach while helping keep it clean.

The first 100 volunteers to sign up receive a commemorative rash guard.

This initiative called ‘Love it Like a Local’ is put together by Keep Manatee Beautiful and the Bradenton Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

During their first collaborative beach cleanup in 2022, volunteers scraped 400 pounds of trash off the coast of Anna Maria Island.

200 people were a part of that effort and organizers are hoping for another great turnout this year.

The cleanup is set to end at 11 a.m. and snacks will be provided afterward.
