Melania Trump’s “Be Best” campaign continues to receive an icy reception. The first lady addressed a cyberbullying summit in Rockville, Md., on Monday and acknowledged how social media can be “destructive and harmful when used incorrectly.”
DougR: Both sides like to focus on the extremes, because it is easier to win your argument there. Even many pro-life people want exceptions for rape and incest, so when attacking these laws, pro-choice advocates focus on rape and incest, even though these cases constitute a small fraction of abortions. Likewise, many pro-choice people are uncomfortable with very late-term abortions, so pro-choice advocates focus on late term abortions, even though these constitute a tiny fraction of all abortions. This issue is representative of the major problem with our current political debate. Rather than honestly discussing the tough issues, both sides tend to argue against outliers or straw men, because it is easier to win these debates.
