Is Melania Trump trolling the president by wearing black in solidarity with sexual assault survivors? The internet thinks so.
Melania Trump‘s little black dress has sprung a new fashion conspiracy theory: She’s standing in solidarity with sexual assault survivors.
The first lady wore a black, collared midi shirt dress to watch her husband speak at the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, where President Trump was slated to speak several times on such topics as sovereignty and Iran.

As often happens, Melania’s outfit churned controversy and speculation. Many commenters online assumed that her choice to wear the color black indicated support for the social movement #BelieveSurvivors, which has encouraged people who support Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were in high school, to wear black clothing and participate in a walkout launched by the #TimesUp movement. On Monday, Sen. Kamela Harris, D-Calif., and actresses Kerry Washington and Debra Messing expressed their support.
Melania is wearing black to the UN. A coincidence, I’m sure.

Melania's wearing black – is this her moment to stand with sexual assault victims? Not quite as obvious as her "I don't care" jacket, but of all the colors to wear at this time…

Interesting … @FLOTUS dressed in all black at the UN today

Huh is it strange that @FLOTUS is wearing all black? Could she be showing some support for @womensmarch and #DrChristineBlaseyFord #NoKavanaugh #wearblack #WeBelieveSurvivors #WeBelieveHer #BlueWave

Two weeks ago, a confidential letter written by Ford, a California professor, surfaced, alleging that Judge Kavanaugh, Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, had sexually assaulted her at a party when they were both in high school, trying to rip off her clothing while covering her mouth. Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.
Ford has also received support for speaking up, prompting the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport to explain why many victims are hesitant to come forward. On Sunday, a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, accused the judge of pulling down his pants and thrusting his penis in her face while they were students at Yale University. And Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for adult star Stormy Daniels, who alleges that she had an affair with the president in 2006, has teased the possibility that a third Kavanaugh accuser will come forward.
While Trump has supported Kavanaugh, calling the accusations “totally political,” Melania has not conveyed her opinion. Meanwhile, her outfits — whether a “pussy bow” blouse, a white pantsuit, or a jacket bearing the slogan ‘I don’t care’ — are an endless source of speculation.
