First lady Melania Trump has already finished decorating for her first Christmas as a White House resident, but said on Thursday she'd pick a much different location if she had the freedom to go anywhere for the holidays.

The first lady named a desert island as her go-to choice for a holiday excursion. The surprising comments came while she was visiting Children's National Hospital on Thursday, continuing tradition of visiting the patients that has been observed by first ladies before her for 60 years.

While Melania has taken a different approach to her time in the East Wing than her predecessors have, the trip was a natural fit, as hospital visits have been one of her regular stops as she's toured the world with the president this year.

"I would spend my holidays on a deserted island, tropical island, with my family,” she said to laughs when a 10-year-old asked where she'd most like to be for the upcoming holiday.

But her island trip dreams sparked a minor feeding frenzy on Twitter, with users pontificating that the first lady's response was a veiled cry for help amid "rabid rumors" of marital strife.

"This isn’t an answer. This is her escape plan," one user said on Twitter.

Other suggested some unpleasant island destinations; Alcatraz, Gitmo, and Antarctica, while another user said it would be a terrible episode of Gilligan’s Island.

Others hoped President Donald Trump would go along too.

But the response could easily be a reaction to scrutiny like the response her words garnered on Twitter -- which she has been subjected to since her husband won the election last year.
