Less than a week after Melania Trump wore an "I Really Don't Care. Do U?" jacket before visiting immigrant children who had been separated from their families, the first lady is spreading a message on the importance of compassion and kindness.

"Kindness, compassion, and positivity are very important traits in life," she said at the Students Against Destructive Decisions youth conference Sunday. "It is far easier to say nothing than it is to speak words of kindness. It is easier to judge quickly than to take time to understand. It is often easier to see a glass half-empty than half full."

"You have the power to be the positive force in so many people's lives," she continued. "Show respect to each other. Treat your community like your family, and look out for one another."

SADD was founded as "Students Against Driving Drunk" in 1981, but changed its name in 1997, with a mission to empower young people throughout their daily challenges, per its website. CNN reports that the conference's audience was filled with middle and high school students and their parents.

SADD wrote on Twitter that they were "honored" to have the first lady speak at their event, and thanked her for her support in a separate tweet.

Trump was invited to speak in part because of her Be Best campaign, which launched in May and aims to fight opioid abuse, promote well-being and positivity on social media, according to CNN.

"As we all know, social media can both positively and negatively affect our children. But too often, it is used in negative ways," Trump said during the announcement of her campaign. "When children learn positive online behaviors early on, social media can be used in productive ways and can affect positive change."

Over the weekend, her husband, President Donald Trump, started a Twitter feud with Jimmy Fallon and told him to "be a man."
