Meijer Recalls Premade Salads Due to Potential Listeria Contamination

More ready-to-eat salads have been recalled by the FDA due to concerns over a potential health risk.

More recalls—this time for ready-to-eat salads—have been issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in connection to the broader Revolution Farms lettuce recall. Meijer, in conjunction with its supplier, Revolution Farms, announced the voluntary recall on April 7 after it was discovered that several premade salads contained lettuces that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

This recall concerns select Fresh From Meijer brand premade salads sold at Meijer stores in MI, IN, IL, OH, KY, and WI. The following salads are included in the recall:

  • Fresh From Meijer Cranberry Spinach Shareable Salad (12 oz.) UPC: 7-08820-30432-1

  • Fresh From Meijer Salad Bowl Spinach Dijon Salad (6.15 oz.) UPC: 7-13733-07493-3

  • Fresh From Meijer Tomato Caprese Salad (6 oz.) UPC: 7-13733-24610-1

  • Fresh From Meijer Avocado Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad (8 oz.) UPC: 7-13733-24611-8

  • Fresh From Meijer Mediterranean Salad (6.5 oz.) UPC: 7-13733-24613-2

  • Fresh From Meijer Shareable Garden Salad (11.5 oz.) UPC: 7-13733-29537-6

  • Fresh From Meijer Michigan Harvest Salad (6.7 oz.) UPC: 7-19283-67929-1

  • Fresh From Meijer Chicken BLT Salad (8.2 oz.) UPC: 7-19283-67930-7

  • Fresh From Meijer Cobb Salad (8.8 oz.) UPC: 7-19283-67932-1

  • Fresh From Meijer Chicken Caesar Shareable Salad (10 oz.) UPC: 7-19283-67933-8

  • Fresh From Meijer Chicken Caesar Salad (6.4 oz.) UPC: 7-60236-11745-2

  • Fresh From Meijer Southwest Chicken Salad (8.8 oz.) UPC: 7-60236-48832-3

As mentioned, this recall is part of an even larger lettuce recall by Revolution Farms, Meijer's supplier for these salads. The recall also concerns other ready-to-eat salads, as well as numerous other Revolution Farms branded salad mixes. The ongoing Fresh Express bagged salad recall is part of a separate recall, and not related to Revolution Farms.

While there have not been any reported illnesses yet, Listeria is a particularly nasty bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Symptoms of listeriosis include a high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and stiffness. Listeriosis infections are more likely to be serious in higher-risk groups like young children, the elderly, and pregnant or immunocompromised people.
