Meghan Trainor Isn’t Thrilled She and Niall Horan Both Have Songs Called "Nice to Meet Ya"

Great minds?

Meghan Trainor just released her new album, Treat Myself, which is packed with pop jams and collabs with everyone from Lennon Stella to the Pussycat Dolls. But one of the songs on her 15-song tracklist happens to share a name with another popular song – and Meghan isn’t exactly thrilled about it.

JustJared Jr. reported that in a recent interview with Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, Meghan shared that she was “pissed” to find out the song, called “Nice to Meet Ya,” shares its title with a single released by former One Direction member Niall Horan.

“I wrote mine years ago, and that happened, and down to the same spelling of ‘ya,’” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh no, what do we do? Do we change it, do we say something else?’” However, she decided against changing her title because it was important to the overall vibe of the song, saying, “It truly couldn’t be any other title.”

Despite the fact that their songs have the same title, there’s no bad blood between Meghan and Niall, and she was quick to clear things up. “Niall’s really nice. I love him,” she shared. “Every time I see him, he’s amazing to me, but I couldn’t change it.”

While things may be fine and dandy between Meghan and Niall, some of his fans aren’t so pleased about the songs sharing a title and were hoping to see some Niall love when “Nice to Meet Ya” recently trended on Twitter. (A case of mistaken identity, if you will.) “His fans are coming after me and it’s OK,” Meghan added. “They’re just like, ‘I thought this was trending for Niall. Guess not … ew.’ I was like, ‘At least you’re still trending it, ew.’”

The two songs are pretty different; Niall’s is a ‘90s-inspired track, while Meghan’s features a cameo from Nicki Minaj. Plus, there are only so many words in the English language, so releasing a song with the same name as someone else's happens, and while we have to LOL at the fact that Meghan couldn't bring herself to change "Ya" to "You," we understand. At the end of the day, the twinning titles may be beneficial for both artists; you could be heading to Spotify to get your Niall fix and discover Meghan’s song, or vice versa, and find a new bop to add to your go-to playlist. Plus, this mix-up could be a potential kickoff for a future collaboration between the musicians, which we’d be totally game for. Meghan, Niall, are you listening? We think it's time for "Nice to Meet Ya Part Two."
