Meghan Is Reportedly in Canada With Archie While Harry Meets With the Queen in the U.K.

From Good Housekeeping

  • Last week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their intention to step back as "senior" royals and pursue a more private life.

  • Since then, Harry has been meeting with other members of the royal family to discuss the terms of his and Meghan's separation from the institution.

  • Meghan, however, has seemingly not been present for these discussions, and some people are left wondering: Where is Meghan Markle now?

In case you missed it (but really — how could you have?), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world by making a major announcement last week: According to a statement they released on January 8, the Sussexes plan to step back from their duties as "senior" royals, become "financially independent," and pursue a more private life lived between Canada and the United Kingdom.

On Monday, Prince Harry met with Prince William, Prince Charles, and Queen Elizabeth to reportedly discuss a plan for his and Meghan's separation from the royal family. But Meghan herself was notably absent from the meeting (although it's been reported that she may have phoned in for the Sandringham Summit). Regardless, people have been wondering...

... where is Meghan Markle now?

If reports from various news outlets are to be believed, Meghan is currently back in Canada with her and Harry's son, Archie, while Harry takes on negotiations with the royal family in the U.K. Why Canada? Not only does the country hold a special place in Meghan's heart (it's where she lived while filming seven seasons of her TV show, Suits), but it also holds significance for the Sussexes as a couple: It's where Meghan and Harry spent much of their holiday break and where they plan to build their second home base, per their announcement last week.

As it turns out, Meghan was only very briefly in the U.K. last week. While she and Prince Harry made an official visit to the Canada House in London on January 7, they left baby Archie back in Canada under the care of a nanny and Meghan's close friend Jessica Mulroney, Town & Country reports. Upon completing their prior engagements and making their big announcement, Meghan reportedly boarded a flight back to Canada, where she has been there with her son ever since.

Whether Meghan joins her husband back in the U.K. for future discussions with the royal family will remain to be seen, but after Harry's meeting today, things seemed to be looking up for the couple. After releasing a short statement following the Sussexes' announcement last week, Queen Elizabeth put out a second statement today that — while noticeably missing Harry and Meghan's royal titles — showed she was "supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family."

More details are sure to come as the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry continue their discussions this week.
