The View's Meghan McCain and her husband, Ben Domenech, became parents last month — and they couldn't be happier.

Per Twitter, the couple welcomed their firstborn, a daughter named Liberty Sage McCain Domenech, in late September. Meghan shared the news of her pregnancy back in March, as she explained why she was calling into the daytime show from home amid the coronavirus outbreak.

"I consulted with my doctors and they advised me that for the safety of our baby and myself, I should be extra vigilant about limiting the amount of people we come in contact with," she wrote on Instagram.

Recently, Meghan gave her fans a glimpse at baby Liberty on her Instagram page. She captioned the adorable snap of her and her newborn daughter, "Bliss. ♥️🗽."

After Meghan gave birth to her daughter, many folks started Googling to learn more about The View star and The Federalist founder's relationship. Not too much is known about Meghan and Ben's early days as a couple together, as the two seem to be fairly private. But we do know that Ben was at the center of several controversies before getting engaged to Meghan in 2017.

As The Daily Mail reports, Ben was hired to write for The Washington Post in 2006 for the conservative-leaning blog called Red America. But just three days after he joined the newspaper, he resigned after claims that he had plagiarized some of his previous work from articles first published in The New Yorker, Post, and more.

Just four years later, Ben found himself in another scandal. In a piece that was picked up by CBS News, he alleged that then Supreme Court Justice nominee Elena Kagan was potentially the first openly gay candidate for that position. After receiving pushback from The White House, Ben penned a piece apologizing to Elena.

In 2013, Ben, yet again, landed in hot water. He, along with other conservative opinion writers, reportedly received payment to pen favorable propaganda pieces about the Malaysian government (Ben allegedly did not disclose the payments at the time). As a result, Ben's pieces were pulled from The Washington Examiner and The San Francisco Examiner.

Was Meghan dating Ben at the time of his most recent scandal? It's not 100% clear when Meghan came into Ben's life, but on The View, the co-host said that the pair had dated "for years" before their engagement announcement in November 2017. She also shared that Ben met Meghan's dad, late Republican Senator John McCain, in epic fashion.

“[Ben] works in politics and has for a long time so he wasn’t as intimidated and he actually met my dad at my brother’s wedding for the first time and ended up talking about health care or something very wonky," Meghan revealed on The View. "He’s so conservative. He’s funny in his own way.”

Beyond the fact that the two love to fish and go shooting together, what made their relationship even stronger is that John himself confirmed that he really liked Ben when he came on the show in November 2017.

"Actually, he's a very fine man. I'm very proud and very happy that they're so happy together," John said about his daughter's fiancé.

The two ended up tying the knot on November 21, 2017, just weeks after Meghan shared their engagement news. The ceremony took place right before sunset at the McCain's family lodge in Sedona, Arizona, according to People.

“I wanted a western country wedding — my aisle was cowhide. I want to give a big special shout-out to Shooter Jennings for singing. I pulled Clay Aiken out of retirement to sing and got my dad to cry," she told the publication, while also adding that she got "very drunk on whiskey" for the occasion.

From the highs of their relationship, like their wedding, to the lows, like the death of John in August of 2018 from brain cancer, Meghan says Ben has always stuck by her side.

"I married for love and my husband carried me through my dad’s cancer,” Meghan said on the show in early 2019. “And if I had married a jacka** that made the most money ever, that was the wealthiest dude I dated, no way I would have survived last year."

No matter what happens next, Meghan has made it clear that she's standing behind her man.

"I’ve been single for so long and I never thought I’d get married,” Meghan previously said on The View. “Wait for people who love strong women. The men who love strong, independent women, they’re out there. Don’t settle for less.”
