From Town & Country

Summertime, for a lot of us, means more time to read. Whether you're traveling to a remote island, spending the afternoon in the park, or commuting on the subway, the perfect companion is a good book. But, if you're anything like me, you've burned through the New York Times bestsellers by the end of June, and the page-turners your friends recommend were actually originally recommended by you. So, now what should you read? You could browse the Internet (or, *gasp* go to the library) or you could take a few recommendations from a Royal.

Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle had her own lifestyle blog called The Tig. She shut down the blog in 2017, because, you know, becoming a Royal isn't void of responsibilities. Many of her now-archived articles are still relevant today, especially her summer reading list and her list of vacation reads. The Duchess has been a humanitarian and advocate for various causes long before her marriage to Prince Harry, and many of her reading choices reflect that.

She includes The Opposite of Loneliness, a collection of essays from the late Marina Keegan, which encourages readers to harness their power to make an impact on the world. Prayers for the Stolen follows a fierce, intelligent young Mexican woman in a time where being a woman is akin to a crime. Plus, a self-titled memoir by Rita Moreno, who overcame all odds and became a Hollywood legend.

The post is from 2015, so the books aren't new releases, but hey, that means they're cheaper, probably available in paperback, and likely at your local library. Wins all around.

There's an option for everyone on this list, whether you like slow-burn mysteries, classic horror, memoirs, or historical fiction—and of course, if you love to cook, we included the Duchess' cookbook as well.
