Abigail Spencer, Meghan Markle, Kelly Clarkson

When Abigail Spencer appeared on Kelly Clarkson's award-winning talk show, she brought more than just her sense of style but a message from her former Suits co-starMeghan Markle.

Spencer, 42, sat down with Clarkson for the episode that aired on Monday, Feb. 26, along with her Extended Family co-star Donald Faison.

During the conversation, Faison discussed how he found a lifelong friend in fellow Scrubs actor Zach Braff because of his professional work. Clarkson then asked Spencer if she was ever lucky enough to forge the same bond with any of her previous co-stars.

“It was 2007, I was doing a pilot for NBC, and I went to read with the people who were supposed to play my best friend. They were testing other actresses,” Spencer said. “I walk in, I see this beautiful gorgeous creature at the end of the table and I'm like, ‘Who is that?’ We had an immediate something, you know? And her name is Meghan Markle.”

After name-dropping the A-lister, also 42, the actress casually passed along a statement from the Duchess of Sussex. “Meg says hello and that she loves you and that she voted for you on American Idol," Spencer shared.

"It worked!” Clarkson, 41, quipped back, referring to her winning season as the original American Idol.

Spencer said Markle's sweet sentiment was genuine and not planned because she knew her co-star would be sitting down with Clarkson, "[Markle] was just having dinner with Michael Bublé, who said you are the greatest singer on earth,” she explained.

As Clarkson shrugged off the compliment, Spencer continued, "This was unsolicited. She did not know I was coming on here. We were just chatting and I was like, 'Oh, I'm going to see Kelly next week,' and she's like, 'I have a message.'"

Though Spencer and Markle's run as on-screen besties came to an end in 2018 during Season 7 of the legal drama, the two's friendship behind the scenes seemingly didn't suffer–even after Markle got married to Prince Harry, assumed royal duties and became a mother (twice).

On Monday, Spencer told the talk show host and Grammy winner that she and Markle had an "immediate connection."

"Our friendship really developed during that time, and deepened," Spencer added. "She’s an incredible person."
