Meghan Markle made a subtle sartorial tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at the late monarch's funeral. Today (19 September) the Royal Family, and many across the UK, say farewell to Her Majesty. In addition to a handful of royals, including the Queen Consort and Princess of Wales, wearing black veils, the Duchess of Sussex gave a nod to the country's longest-reigning monarch through her choice of jewellery.

Meghan arrived at Westminster Abbey this morning wearing an all-black outfit, as is tradition, consisting of a collarless cape dress teamed with a wide-brimmed hat and matching heels. The Duchess wore her hair in a low bun, revealing a pair of meaningful earrings in the process. For the sombre occasion, Meghan selected a pair of minimalist diamond and pearl studs with a significant backstory: the jewels were a gift from Queen Elizabeth II back in 2018.

This isn't the first time Meghan's worn the sentimental earrings in recent days, with the Duchess spotted in the same pair after participating in the procession of Queen Elizabeth II's coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall last week.

Per People, the earrings were given to Meghan shortly after she married Prince Harry, to honour the Duchess and Queen's first solo outing together.

Kate Middleton, Princess Charlotte and Queen Consort Camilla have also paid tribute to the Queen through their jewels. Kate has worn multiple pearl pieces belonging to Her Majesty over the national mourning period, while Charlotte and Camilla have both worn meaningful brooches commemorating the late monarch.
