Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world's eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We'll be following the Meghan Markle Effect with our column, "Meghan Markle Wore a Thing.

Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is proving, once again, that she understands the power of fashion to do more than just please the eye. On Monday, she began her tour of Africa with Duke of Sussex Prince Harry and their son Archie — their first tour as a family — and opted to wear an African-made dress for the occasion. For the tour's first stop in Cape Town, South Africa, the Duchess donned a woven dress by Mayamiko, a brand based in Malawi.

The black-and-white wrap dress, which features a graphic leopard and double helix print, is currently sold out, but the black Castañer espadrille wedges the Duchess paired with it are still available. All in all, this has to be one of the most affordable outfits we've ever seen the royal wear, with the dress retailing for about $86 and the shoes costing $99. The fact that the brand that made the Duchess's dress is Fair Trade-certified, zero waste, runs on solar power and uses organic materials makes one wonder — is the Duchess going to opt for an Africa tour wardrobe as full of ethical fashion as her Australia and New Zealand tour was? Watch this space to find out.
