Meghan Markle Surprised Her Royal Wedding Makeup Artist on Her Trip to New York

For taking a weekend jaunt to the U.S. Open, Meghan Markle sure had a packed itinerary. First she swung by a hot yoga class. Then she was the greatest fan of all time to friend Serena Williams. In between, she apparently made it to her longtime makeup artist's birthday party.

Makeup artist Daniel Martin shared on Instagram yesterday that his birthday party included a surprise visit by none other than Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. "Thanks to everyone for reaching out to me today and Meg, love you friend for surprising me on my special day," he wrote. He gave his followers a look at plate of mini birthday cupcakes, but didn't offer up any more details about Markle's unexpected appearance.

Royals fans will remember that Martin and Markle go way back. He crafted Markle's glowy makeup look for her royal wedding in 2018, and they'd been friends for ten years prior to her big day. Naturally, they're still part of each other's most important moments. "We text a lot because I’m always traveling and the time difference between our two countries is challenging to just hop on a call," he told Glamour last year.

Markle's ascent to the royal family hasn't changed her relationship with Martin, even if they don't see each other as often. He also attended her New York City baby shower in February. “It was a reunion for all of us, too, who hadn’t seen each other since the wedding,” he told People at the time. “Snow was falling outside, and it was so cozy — we all sat on couches or on the floor and told stories and caught up. It was like going to a family reunion.”

Martin hasn't confirmed the next time that he'll be on hand to put together Markle's makeup look. But if Markle's birthday surprise for Martin says anything, it's that becoming the Duchess of Sussex hasn't changed her closest friendships.
