Meghan Markle Sewed a Secret Tribute to Princess Diana on Her Wedding Dress

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."

If you've ever been to a wedding (or watched a rom-com), you know this Old English rhyme, designed to describe things a bride should carry for good luck on her wedding day, very well. But even though it's way older than any modern bride or groom, it's still pretty common for brides today to take it to heart.

Meghan Markle—the newest member of the British royal family—is no exception.

Despite there not being an obvious speck of blue on her during her über romantic wedding day to Prince Harry, Markle did wear something blue during the nuptials. It was just hidden. Even though previous reports said her "something blue" was Diana's aquamarine ring worn to the reception, Markle actually paid homage to the late princess with her Givenchy wedding dress in a more secretive manner.

CNN's Alisyn Camerota walked InStyle through what it was like to be at the royal wedding, and as she described the view from the ground, she gave insight into the homage.

"There were all these different little symbols of [Diana]," she explained. "They had a blue ribbon that Diana had also worn sewn into the inside of Megan's dress, as it had been to Kate's so that each bride was carrying a little piece of Princess Diana with her down the aisle."

Couple that with Diana's sister's reading, the floral tribute to Di, the guests representing her legacy, and the engagement ring Prince Harry originally gave Markle, and you've got a wedding jam packed with emotional nods.

Of course, that was the point. Prince Harry said as much during his joint engagement interview with the bride back in November.

"I think [Princess Diana] would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me," said Harry, adding that Meghan and his mother would have "probably been best friends."

"It's days like today [that] I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news," he continued. "But you know with the ring and with everything else that's going on I'm sure she's ... "

" ... she's with us," Markle finished.

Cue the tears.
