Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s First Dance Song Was Reportedly Not the One We Thought

Finding Freedom, the biography that dives into Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s exit from the royal family, has already dropped a few bombshells about the tense atmosphere at the palace before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down and left the U.K.

However, there have also been some sweeter revelations, especially about the couple’s fairytale courtship and stunning wedding celebration. According to Harper’s Bazaar U.K., the book revealed the couple was completely “joyful on the big day” and shared their first dance song to “I’m in Love” by Wilson Pickett.

Back in 2018, the Telegraph reported that the couple’s first dance was to “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston, calling it Markle’s “happy song.” Maybe they danced to both? Regardless, both are great choices and reflective of how in love the Sussexes were on the momentous occasion.

At the time it was reported that the couple took a lot of time choosing their wedding playlist, which was put together by Pippa Middleton’s own wedding DJ, Sam Totolee. Oh, and Elton John also performed a few songs live, NBD. Maybe he could tell us the truth about the first dance once and for all.

It’s important to note that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were not interviewed for Finding Freedom.  Instead, authors and royals experts Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand relied on interviews with people close to the family and the couple.

On July 24, a Sussex spokesperson confirmed that Markle and Prince Harry never contributed to the book directly. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to ‘Finding Freedom.’ This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting,” a senior reporter at Huffington Post was told.

Honestly, both songs seem very on-brand for the Sussexes. Let’s hope they release a wedding video one day.
