Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Welcome Their Baby Girl
It’s official: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have welcomed their second child!
CNN reports that Meghan has given birth to a baby girl who has been named after both Queen Elizabeth and the late Princess Diana.
“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” read a statement from a spokesperson on behalf of the royal couple. The statement went on to detail that Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, and Meghan is now resting at home with her newborn daughter. “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” the statement further explained. “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
Lili will join big brother Archie, who turned two in May.
Meghan and Harry announced that they were expecting a second child back in February. They shared their exciting news with the world on Valentine’s Day, revealing Meghan’s pregnancy with a beautiful black-and-white maternity photo. “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” their announcement read. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
As noted by CNN, Meghan and Harry revealed to Oprah Winfrey that they were expecting a girl when they sat down with the star for a candid interview earlier this year. “To have any child, any one or two, would be amazing,” Harry said at the time. “But to have a boy and then a girl, what more could you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, the four of us and our two dogs. It’s great.”
