Brb, squealing. Baby Sussex has arrived. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have welcomed their first child together, the couple revealed on May 6.

The child is a boy weighing in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces and was born at 5:26 a.m. local time, just minutes after Buckingham Palace revealed the Duchess of Sussex was in labor.

Shortly after the birth announcement, the proud dad told reporters that “mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could have ever have possibly imagined.”

The royal family revealed that Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, is currently accompanying the new parents at home at Frogmore Cottage postbirth. The rest of the royal family, including the Queen and the child’s aunt and uncle, Kate Middleton and Prince William, have been informed of the news and are simply “delighted.” Ragland, on her part, is “overjoyed.”

Prior to the baby’s arrival, Markle did not attend the royal family’s Easter service—a tradition long upheld by the brood. Her mother had also arrived to London from L.A. ahead of the child’s imminent arrival.

The couple first announced they were expecting their first baby together in October 2018. In advance of their expanding family, the Sussexes split their household from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Kensington Palace, even opening up their own Instagram account in early April.

It was previously announced that the pair would move from Kensington Palace to Windsor Castle, also the site of their May 2018 wedding. Weeks before the baby’s arrival, Harry and Meghan officially moved into their newly-renovated Frogmore Cottage, a short distance away from their wedding reception of Frogmore Hall.

The couple kept details about the baby largely under wraps throughout the course of Markle’s pregnancy.

“We’ll know in due course when the baby is born. Harry and Meghan made it very clear the birth is going to be private. There aren’t going to be any advance notices and they will release any details once they’ve had time to bond with the baby,” the pair previously noted through Buckingham Palace. “The birth will come as they said, in late-April, early May, and we just need to hold our horses until then.”

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The duke and duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

This has been a sentimental journey for Markle especially, who’s long aspired to welcome a child. “I dream to be a Mom with wee ones running around my house,” she told The Brew in November 2014. Along with parenthood, Markle also expressed her dream “to one day have a cooking show, to continue working on social issues at a global level, to run a marathon, to see this glorious world, and to stay grounded, grateful and open-hearted.”
