Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Are Taking Baby Archie To South Africa

Baby Archie may already have a busier social calendar than you. In between visits from A-list godparent-hopefuls, Archie Harrison may be flying off on his first royal trip as early as 2019, with Africa as the intended destination. Daily Mail reporter and royal correspondent Richard Eden confirmed via anonymous source that “early preparations have begun” for the Sussex royals’ arrival in South Africa, suggesting that the trip is coming sooner rather than later.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry have been rumored to be planning a trip to Africa for some time, with early speculation suggesting the couple was even trying to move to the continent. The duo does have prior history visiting Africa together, having gone on an impromptu five-day camping trip to Botswana early in their relationship, as well as spending their honeymoon in East Africa. The list goes on: Harry studied abroad in Lesotho; Meghan celebrated her 36th birthday in Botswana; Harry designed Meghan’s engagement ring with a central diamond from Botswana. The pair has also focused some of their charity efforts in Africa, with Harry’s charity Sentebale focusing its efforts in Lesotho and Botswana.

When a spokesman for the Sussex royals was asked about the upcoming trip, their only comment was this: “Nothing has been confirmed about upcoming tours.” Per Daily Mail‘s source, however, South African officials “have been informed that the Duke and Duchess will be coming.” An April report in The Times claimed the trip was scheduled for autumn of 2019, noting that — if this timeline is correct — baby Archie would be one of the youngest royals to go on an official trip. Archie would be not yet six months old come fall, while cousin Prince George was eight months old when he first accompanied his parents, the Cambridge royals, on a trip to Australia and New Zealand.

Currently, baby Archie is less than a month old — but if his first twenty or so days in the world are any indication, he has a rich and full year ahead.
