Less than 24 hours after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their intentions to step back as senior members of the royal family, the royals were business as usual on social media to mark Kate Middleton's 38th birthday. Even Meghan and Harry joined in the festivities, continuing their tradition of commenting on royal family birthday posts from their SussexRoyal Instagram handle.

Kensington Palace shared a new photo of the Duchess of Cambridge off-duty on its Instagram. Meghan and Harry commented on it, leaving a personal message to Kate that everyone can see. It's the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's first visible activity on Instagram since they made their announcement regarding their roles yesterday.

Kate and Prince William thanked fans for their well-wishes on the Kensington Palace post. "Thank you everyone for all your lovely messages on The Duchess of Cambridge’s birthday! Photo 📷 by @MattPorteous," they wrote.

Meghan and Harry commented, "Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge today! 🎂❤️" The emojis are a sweet touch.

Kate and Meghan's last event together, just the two of them, was the Wimbledon Ladies' Singles final this summer. It was there that the duchesses sought to personally debunk the tabloids' feud rumors about them by showing how friendly they really are.

“Kate and Meghan had always planned to attend the final together. Not only is it something that they enjoy, it’s also a chance to remind people that the tabloid stories about their relationship have been wide of the mark,” a source told ELLE.com at the time.

Kate was supportive of Meghan throughout her pregnancy with Archie, and the two have become closer friends since Meghan became a parent. “Catherine and Meghan enjoy seeing each other, and motherhood has definitely brought them closer together,” a source told ELLE.com in July.
