Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Officially Shut Down SussexRoyal

Former senior royals Meghan Markle and Prince Harry took another major step to distance themselves from their old lives. In addition to moving to Los Angeles and away from their royal duties, People reports that Meghan and Harry have officially shut down their charity, SussexRoyal. The magazine confirmed that the couple has filed the proper paperwork in the U.K. and that all assets from SussexRoyal will be transferred to sustainable travel and tourism initiative, Travalyst, one of the charity's ongoing nonprofit programs.

Meghan and Harry will be focusing all future endeavors on their new nonprofit, Archewell, which takes its name from their son, Archie. In a previous statement, the former Sussexes explained that the name also blends "an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon." Though the two had to postpone the charity's launch because of the coronavirus pandemic, they're still working to help those around them. Harry and Meghan are "redirecting their efforts to the Black Lives Matter cause and the wider repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic," the Telegraph reported.

Travalyst will forge ahead, however. Though travel has been affected by restrictions and the pandemic, sources told People that the sustainable travel initiative will continue to function as best as it can.

"The Travalyst partnership is committed to playing an active role in helping communities that rely on tourism rebuild and recover in ways that support their long-term sustainability and resilience," a source said.

All SussexRoyal trustees have stepped down, except for Harry, who will remain as Director and Trustee until the liquidation process is complete.

"The Duke and Duchess remain incredibly grateful for the support and guidance the [SussexRoyal] trustees have given during this period," an additional source told People.
