Meghan Markle and Prince Harry May Spend Christmas in California

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be giving little baby Archie a new passport stamp for Christmas.

According to reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are already planning to spend time in the United States for the Thanksgiving holiday. The royal family is expected to spend time with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in the former actress' home state of California. However, now it seems the couple may extend their trip and stay through the Christmas holiday as well.

“The plans have not been finalized,” an inside source told Vanity Fair. “They will be in America for Thanksgiving later this month and there’s a chance they might choose to stay out there a while longer which might mean missing Christmas.”

Several other sources told Vanity Fair, the couple will not only be in Los Angeles to celebrate the holidays but to also potentially hunt down a second home in the city.

“It has always been important to Meghan that Archie grows up aware of his American heritage and they plan to spend more time in the States as he grows up,” another friend told the magazine. “They’ve not had much time off and this feels like the right moment to take a proper break.”

This would indeed be a major break from tradition for Harry, who typically spends his holidays with The Queen and other members of the royal family at their estate in Sandringham. However, according to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, who spoke to Fox News, getting away from Sandringham may be just what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex need.

“Christmas at Sandringham can be quite stressful, so perhaps they don’t want to go with Archie at such a young age,” she said. “Having said that, Sandringham has played host to many many children through the ages and is well set up for them.”

She added, “I think it’s sad they don’t want to be part of the family gathering, particularly now that the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are in their dotage. The queen might be a little hurt but she’s far too gracious to ever let it show or be known.”

And, as one more source shared with Vanity Fair, it’s highly unlikely we will see Harry and Meghan will spend the holidays alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. And if they do decide to head to Sandringham it may not be a welcoming place.

“Things between them are still not great,” the source said. “The feeling is that Harry and Meghan have rather alienated themselves from the rest of the family. If they do come for Christmas it might be a particularly frosty one.”

A palace spokesperson confirmed Harry and Meghan will not spend the Christmas holiday with the Queen at Sandringham. However, the source did not confirm whether or not the couple will be in Los Angeles. As the source told The Daily Mail, "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month. Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess' mother Doria Ragland. This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen."
