Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Just Made a Huge Announcement
It’s their Declaration of Independence. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced Wednesday, January 8, that they will be transitioning their roles from senior members of the British Royal Family towards maintaining financial and geographical independence on their own accord.
The couple will be stepping down as senior members of the royal family to focus on their own foundation and work. This stunning announcement is also accompanied by the high profile pair’s decision to split their time between the United Kingdom and North America, where Markle was raised and worked up until she moved to Kensington Palace with Harry.
The pair married in May 2018 and welcomed their baby boy Archie a year later. “This geographical balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born,” they said in their official statement.
The news follows a covert trip to Canada over the holidays. It isn’t the first time the pair has broke with tradition, which has long been a focus of the Sussexes since they started dating.
