Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Brought Archie to His First Official Royal Engagement

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, welcome to the family business. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle brought their son to his first royal engagement today, September 25, in South Africa—and what a momentous one it was. While we knew the littlest royal joined his parents on the royal tour to Africa, it wasn't known if or when he would make an official appearance. But today the Duke and Duchess of Sussex brought the almost five-month-old to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter, Thandeka. Per the Sussex Royal Instagram, the royals are meeting to learn more about the work of The Tutu and Leah Legacy Foundation.

Archie sightings have been fairly scarce since his birth in May, as Meghan and Harry have made it clear that they are trying to maintain as normal and private a life for their son as they can, given their positions. We first met him a few days after he was born and then have been left to a few photos on their Instagram and the official christening images.

But, oh, how he's grown over the past few months—and we've also got video of the adorable little guy his parents appear to call "Arch." (And who doesn't love baby giggles?)

Don't you think he looks like a lot like his dad? Here's Harry in 1985:

Royal reporter Emily Andrews says that Archbishop Tutu and Thandeka gave the Sussex family "a basket of gifts celebrating South African women, children and non-racialism – including several 🎁 for young Archie incl Tutu’s children’s 📚, an illustrated songbook & beaded bracelets hand-made by Ikamva Labantu."

During the meeting Archie hung out on his mom's lap and entertained the group. He wore H&M overalls.

People reports that Harry said his son "constantly wants to stand" and that “I think he knows exactly what’s going on."

Markle said that Archie is an "old soul" after Thandeka remarked that he will have to get used to the cameras. "I think he is used to it already," Harry added.

"Thank you, Archbishop Tutu, for your incredibly warm hospitality, Archie loved meeting you!" the couple wrote on their Instagram.
