Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Mother's Day Photo of Archie Pays Tribute to Princess Diana

Meghan Markle celebrated her first Mother's Day on Sunday (May 12), and although the United Kingdom actually celebrated the holiday back in March, Markle decided to honor her American heritage with a day filled with joy and Instagram posts.

According to People, Markle spent the day at her home in Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Castle with her new son, Archie, her husband Prince Harry, and her own mom, Doria Ragland.

“She’s super excited,” a source told People about Ragland's trip to England for both the birth of her grandchild and spending Mother's Day with her daughter. “She and Meghan are so close.”

To mark the holiday, Meghan and Harry also shared a message with moms all over the world on their new Instagram account, @SussexRoyal.

"Paying tribute to all mothers today - past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you," Harry and Meghan wrote in the caption of a post showing the teeny tiny toes of their new baby, Archie.

"Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex."

The post continued with an excerpt from Nayyirah Waheed's poem "Lands", which read:
my
mother
was
my first country;
the first place i ever lived.

The photo also paid tribute to one more mother in the Sussexes' lives: Princess Diana. The royal couple is holding their tot over a bed of forget-me-not flowers—and those baby blue flowers are not only gorgeous but also happened to be Princess Diana's favorite flower. Back in 2018, Prince Harry even picked a handful of the flowers just for Meghan to use in her bouquet for their royal wedding.

As for how the new family of three is fairing, Meghan herself told the press, “He has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm.” She added, “He’s just been a dream. It’s been a special couple of days.”
