Meghan Markle Paid Tribute to Prince Charles in the Chicest Way During the Fashion Awards

[MUSIC] Good evening, everyone! It is such a pleasure to be here in my new home of the UK. [APPLAUSE] The winner this evening is Clare Waight Keller.

Meghan Markle and Prince Charles are well on their way to becoming best buds (you might recall the prince escorted the royal down the aisle on her wedding day). But while the 70-year-old may be more inclined to show his love for his daughter-in-law with a special framed photo in his home, it appears that the Duchess of Sussex prefers to pay tribute with her accessories.

The 37-year-old had us all like, "yasssss Duchess" when she made a surprise appearance at The Fashion Awards in London on Monday to present her wedding dress designer, Givenchy's Clare Waight Keller, with the award for British Designer of the Year, Womenswear.

Markle wowed the crowd in a chic off-the-shoulder velvet gown by Givenchy which she paired with Tamara Mellon Karat sandals. Ever the royal rebel, the Duchess went with royal protocol-breaking dark nails to complete her stylish ensemble.

With all the attention on her vampy digits, we almost failed to notice that the royal was rocking a stunning set of jewels. At first glance, her assortment of gold chunky bangles and stud earrings look like just another fashion statement, but they actually hold a special connection to her father-in-law.

The jewelry comes from designer Pippa Small, who supports the Turquoise Mountain foundation — a charity started by Prince Charles that works with artisans in Afghanistan. Many of the pieces worn by Markle are still available for purchase, including the Nosheen stud earrings (which retail for $60), the Wajiha bangle (which retails for $430), the Omeen bangle (which retails for $190), and Oshna bangle (which retails for $140).

It’s nice to see the royal showing some support for her father-in-law, especially considering all current drama with her own dad, Thomas Markle, who's leveraged his time in the spotlight to heavily criticize Markle (and the rest of the royal family). At the request of no one, he recently weighed in on the supposed drama over his daughter's aides, noting that Meghan is "demanding, but never rude."

At least she's got Charles on her side.
