Meghan Markle Has Officially Given Birth to a Baby Boy

It's official: Meghan Markle is a mom. The Duchess of Sussex welcomed a baby boy, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Instagram.

"We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz," the palace wrote in a statement on Instagram. "The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days."

The world has been waiting for Baby Sussex for what feels like ages. In October 2018, Kensington Palace announced Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were expecting their first child together.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019," the palace said in a statement. "Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

On May 6, 2019, Buckingham Palace confirmed Markle had gone into labor with Prince Harry by her side.

Unsurprisingly, Markle's pregnancy was one of the biggest stories of the year. Everything from her maternity style to the way she held her baby bump has been analyzed by fans and critics alike. The Duchess, for the most part, kept mum about the baby for the length of her pregnancy, offering only a few soundbites.

On International Women's Day, for example, Markle said this: “I think the real treat in and of itself is being able to be here—that is such a gift on this day. And then separate from that there are the women in my life that I want to celebrate with and send some love to today. But also the men who are championing all of us as part of this journey. And then I’ll put my feet up because that’s a deserved treat, especially in this stage of pregnancy.”

Prince Harry didn't say much either, though he did let the press in on what he and Markle were calling the baby during pregnancy: their little bump.

Congrats, Meghan and Harry! We'll, of course, keep you updated on more Baby Sussex news as it comes in.
