Meghan Markle May Have Worn Princess Diana’s Butterfly Earrings in Australia

Like her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle has a knack for turning pretty much everything she touches to gold. Nearly every pencil skirt, sheath dress, and clutch purse she wears in public is immediately scooped up by her adoring fans, all hoping some of that signature "Markle Sparkle" will rub off on them.

This so-called "Meghan Markle Effect" has already taken effect in Australia, where Meghan and Prince Harry landed on Monday to kick off their first-ever overseas royal tour, which will take them through Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand over the course of 16 days. On Tuesday, while touring Sydney, Meghan stepped out wearing a gorgeous white sheath dress by Australian designer Karen Gee, just hours after Kensington Palace announced her pregnancy. The royal pick caused the brand's site to crash almost immediately.

Sydney's 7 News reports that very soon after Meghan and Harry began their busy day of appearances in the city, the Karen Gee website went down. As of Tuesday morning, however, the site was back up and running, and — miracle of all miracles! — Meghan's dress is still available. Her exact piece is the "Blessed" dress in ivory, boasting "a simple, structured fit designed to contour the body for a sleek silhouette." It retails for 1,800 Australian dollars, or about $1,285, and takes about three weeks to ship from Australia.

Another part of Meghan's look that has people talking is her accessories. As many pointed out, her butterfly studs look very similar to a pair that Harry's mother Princess Diana used to wear.

Following the social media flood of photos, the dress's designer Karen Gee spoke to Harper's Bazaar about the incredible influx of interest her brand has experienced in the past 24 hours, noting that, aside from the website crash, her flagship store was also flooded with calls from interested shoppers. "It's an absolute honor to have Meghan wear our dress," Gee said. "The fact that she could choose anyone in the world and she’s chosen Karen Gee on her first day is phenomenal." She continued, "The purpose of the brand is to encourage women to feel good no matter what size and shape they are. I truly believe Meghan is empowering because she is confident, backs herself—and who doesn't love her?"
