From Town & Country

Since little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor arrived on May 6, Meghan Markle has (very understandably) stayed out of the limelight. Aside from a brief photocall and interview with Prince Harry and Archie, the Duchess has been privately adjusting to life as a new mom-but a tentpole royal engagement might soon mark her return to the public sphere.

Queen Elizabeth's birthday parade, or "Trooping the Colour," as it's known, brings out nearly every royal family member for a public appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony. The tradition dates back to 1748 with King George II, who decided to combine the annual summer military march with his birthday festivities. This year, it's set to take place on Saturday, June 8.

Meghan Markle attended her first Trooping the Colour parade this past summer, just a few weeks after marrying Prince Harry. The newly-minted Duchess wore a blush Carolina Herrera dress and matching hat by Philip Treacy for the event.

It's thought that Meghan may appear again at this year's event, partially because of how fellow Duchess Kate Middleton has handled the parade in the past. Last year, Kate Middleton attended Trooping the Colour, despite giving birth to Prince Louis relatively recently.

As working royals hardly have typical 9-to-5 jobs, Kate and Meghan's maternity leave arrangements aren't cut-and-dry. It's expected that office workers on leave will stay home for a given amount of time; but royals will sometimes make brief appearances here and there, even while stepping back to care for a newborn.

Meghan's maternity leave is "likely to be longer" than three months, a royal source previously told Town & Country. Still, "She may make some official appearances during this time." Royal watchers will have to wait and see if this year's Trooping the Colour parade will be among those engagements.
