  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped out for Commonwealth Day engagement at Canada House in London.

  • The Duchess of Sussex wore a green dress by Erdem, a Canadian-born designer.

  • The event hits close to home for Meghan, who previously lived in Toronto, Canada.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are visiting Canada House in London, the home of the Canadian High Commission to the United Kingdom, in honor of Commonwealth Day. The couple is attending an event that will "showcase and celebrate the diverse community of young Canadians living in London and around the U.K.," Kensington Palace previously announced.

The engagement hits close to home for the Duchess of Sussex, who lived in the Canadian city of Toronto, to film the show Suits, before moving to London to live with Prince Harry. For today's engagement, the duchess wore a rich green embroidered coat by Erdem, which was a subtle nod to her former home: designer Erdem Moralıoğlu was born in Canada.

She finished off the look with black cut-out pumps and a clutch, to match the floral designs on the coat, and kept her hair in a low bun. Prince Harry followed closely behind in a navy suit and mauve tie.

Meghan has previously shown her support for Canadian designers during her royal career, wearing Erdem and other labels like Soia & Kyo, House of Nonie, Aritzia, LINE, and more.

Although she's a Londoner now, Toronto and Canada hold a special place in Meghan's heart. "It’s really nice how Toronto has embraced us," she told Best Health Canada in 2016. "There’s this really sweet pride that comes from knowing we are embracing the city. I love how excited people are and of course it’s Canada so they’re still so polite."
