Meghan Markle Was Just Named Vice President of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust
Meghan Markle will serve as the vice president for the Queen's Commonwealth Trust.
The announcement was made not long before the Duchess appeared on a panel for International Women's Day, which was organized by the Trust.
With less than a year as a Duchess under her belt, Meghan Markle is already racking up some very impressive royal duties. This morning, just before she participated in a panel for International Women's Day organized by the Queen's Commonwealth Trust, Meghan was named the Trust's vice president.
The Queen's Commonwealth Trust, of which Queen Elizabeth is patron and Prince Harry is president, is focused on helping youth in the 53 Commonwealth countries to enact positive change. And it seems that Meghan's long-held focus on feminist issues will be a great addition to the organization's leading team. "In this new role, the Duchess will highlight the Trust's partnerships with young people across the Commonwealth, and in particular its work supporting women and girls," a statement from the Trust explained.
Markle was also recently named patron of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. At the time, royal reporter Victoria Murphy told Town & Country that Meghan was likely to become even more involved in Commonwealth. "I think [Meghan's new patronage] also reflects the fact that she and Harry are going to have very prominent roles within the Commonwealth moving forward," Murphy said. "The Commonwealth is an institution that is very important to the royal family, and this patronage signifies to me that we can expect Meghan along with Harry to play a big role in that."
It appears that Murphy was correct, as Markle's role in the international association only continues to grow.
