Update: In the Sussexes' Netflix documentary, Meghan reflected on her first solo project as a royal, the Together cookbook, which raised funds for the Hubb community kitchen, and survivors of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

"The Grenfell fire left so many families displaced, outside of how many deaths it caused. And I remember saying 'Well can we do something? We need to go down there and do something.' And so, I connected with the women at Al-Manaar, which is a mosque in Grenfell. They were living in these hotels and just given meal vouchers for fast food," Meghan says in the series.

"Over the course of like eight or nine months, I just kept going back and visiting them and I loved these women so much. When I watched these women laughing together and grieving together, I said, 'Why cant you do this every day of the week?' and they said, 'Well, we don't have the funds for it.' I just looked around, I said, 'We should make a cookbook.'"

"Actually the first speech I made as a member of the royal family was launching this cookbook," Meghan continued.

Original: Today, Kensington Palace announced Meghan Markle's first solo endeavor as the Duchess of Sussex, a project which combines two of her passions: food and empowering women.

Meghan is supporting a new charity cookbook called Together, which is raising money for the Hubb Community Kitchen, a communal kitchen at the Al Manaar Centre in West London, which started as a place where those victims of the Grenfell Tower Fires could prepare fresh foods for their families and friends.

"As they cooked together and shared recipes, as a community they began to connect, heal and look forward. Word spread and more women joined in – this was the start of the Hubb Community Kitchen," reads a Kensington Palace statement.

"This cookbook is a celebration of life, community and the impact of coming together," the Duchess writes in the foreword of the book. "Our hope is that within these pages you will find new recipes and family favourites that you can enjoy in your own homes, because these recipes aren't simply meals; they are stories of family, love, of survival and of connection."

Per the Palace, "Profits from the sales of 'Together' will support the Hubb Community Kitchen, helping to keep it open for up to seven days a week and to widen its reach to others in the community."

According to royal reporter Omid Scobie, Meghan will also be hosting an event on Thursday in honor of the new cookbook featuring food created by the Hubb women with a little help from the Duchess herself.

Meghan started visiting the organization back in January and has continued to make private visits throughout the spring and summer, and it was really her involvement with the group that led to the idea of creating a benefit cookbook full of recipes from the women involved with the kitchen.
