Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney Still Talk Regularly, According to One of Their Mutual Friends
Just because Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney’s friendship isn’t plastered all over Instagram doesn’t mean it isn’t as strong as ever.
Speculation that Jessica and Meghan are on the outs is nothing new, but the latest round of goss was fueled by two things: First, Jessica didn’t post an Instagram tribute to Meghan on her birthday earlier this month, which some people decided was a kind of snub. And second, Jessica shared and then deleted an Instagram post about mental health and not blaming people and companies that had “erased” her in the past year.
Now, a mutual friend is setting the record straight about the state of Meghan and Jessica’s friendship (anonymously, of course).
“Meghan is in regular touch with Jessica,” the source told the Daily Mail. “It’s just difficult now they’re in California and Jessica’s in Toronto.”
As for Jessica, The Mail reports that all she would say on the subject was, “Just because it didn’t happen on Instagram doesn’t mean it didn’t happen,” which seems to imply that she did wish Meghan a happy birthday but in a more personal, not public-facing way—the way you would with your closest friends, perhaps.
Those who think the lack of a birthday tribute post is proof of a feud between Jessica and Meghan definitely seem to be firmly in the “IG or it didn’t happen” camp (or at the very least, convinced that Jessica is secretly in that camp).
“Jess would post about the opening of an envelope, so the fact she’s the only one of Meghan’s close friends not to wish her a public happy birthday is definitely strange,” a source told the Mail on Sunday of the alleged snub. “It is something which has certainly raised eyebrows. Yes, Jessica was always protective of her friendship with Meghan. But it was always something that was there, front and center. You could tell how important it was to Jessica.”
As for the deleted Instagram post, it did refer to broken connections, but Jessica has been open about the fact that several people and companies have distanced themselves from her in the past year or so. (Context: In June 2020, Black influencer Sasha Exeter accused Jessica of engaging in “very problematic behavior and antics” and even sending her “a threat in writing” after Sasha shared a call to action encouraging fellow influencers to use their platforms to support the Black community, and there were, predictably and understandably, consequences that followed.) While Jessica has been open about the impact the scandal had on many of her personal and professional relationships, she’s maintained that she and Meghan are still close.
So there you have it. Meghan and Jessica’s friendship is still going great, tyvm.
