Meghan Markle and Her Son, Archie, Reportedly Spoke with the Queen Before Prince Philip's Funeral
Duchess Meghan and Archie have shown their support for the queen.
A source told People that Meghan and her almost two-year-old son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, spoke with Queen Elizabeth II ahead of the funeral services for the late Duke of Edinburgh last weekend. The insider added that Meghan, who had to remain in California for the service due to her current stage of pregnancy, also regularly kept in touch with her husband while he spent a number of days back in the United Kingdom supporting his family following his grandfather's death.
"Meghan spoke with Harry before his grandfather's funeral," the source told People. "Meghan and Archie also spoke with the Queen earlier this week."
Continued the source, "She knows the trip to England has been difficult for Harry. He didn't want to leave Meghan and Archie alone. Meghan has insisted to him every day though that they are fine. She hasn't wanted him to worry."
Though Meghan couldn't make the trip along with her husband across the pond for the funeral, she did send her condolences to the queen and sent a handwritten card and sentimental wreath that was displayed during Prince Philip's ceremony.
The commemorative wreath was hand-made and designed by Willow Crossley and featured a number of symbolic flowers meant to honor the memory of the duke, including Bear's Breeches (the national flower of Greece, Philip's birthplace) and Sea Holly, to represent the Royal Marines.
Crossley is a florist the Sussexes have repeatedly turned to for special occasions, including part of their wedding at Frogmore Gardens, Archie's christening at Windsor Castle, and the duchess's launch event for the Hubb Community cookbook at Kensington Palace.
