Britain has a new royal baby! The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a little boy this morning, Meghan and Harry have announced. The statement was shared via social media this morning.

"It's a boy," reads an official announcement, which was posted on the Sussex's Instagram account. "Their royal highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to announce the birth of their child."

Both mother and baby are reportedly in good health following the delivery, and the little boy weighed in at 7 pounds 3 oz.

"The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives," reads the caption of the post.

The child, whose name has yet to be released publicly, is now seventh in line to the British throne, bumping Prince Andrew (and everyone else) down a spot. The new royal baby marks the eighth great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth.

Oddsmakers had been predicting Arthur, Albert, and Philip for a boy, but it will likely be a few days before the name is officially announced. For example, in 2013, Prince George's name was announced two days after his birth.

While there is no specific reasoning why the royal family will delay in sharing the little one's name, royals expert Victoria Arbiter shed some light on the tradition.

"The reasoning is perhaps two fold. On one hand there's a desire to inform the families before a public declaration is made and any new parent appreciates having a little private time to get to know their new addition before the onslaught of announcements," she told Town & Country via email before the arrival of Prince Louis.

"Royals, however, also have to consider the great responsibility in naming a new member of the family and I expect they want to be a hundred percent certain of their choice before announcing the name and sealing the baby's place in history."

That said, the Sussexes have been known to break tradition, so we'll just have to wait and see.
