Meghan Markle Finds Time to Bake Banana Bread While on Royal Tour

At the start of the duke and duchess’s 16-day royal tour, Meghan Markle brought a fresh loaf of banana bread to farmers in Dubbo, Australia.

You’d think, with the combination of her pregnancy announcement and her first overseas royal tour, Meghan Markle might be feeling a bit overwhelmed. Or even very overwhelmed. But the duchess of Sussex can charm crowds, serve up serious looks, and even find time to whip up a tasty loaf of banana bread.

Yes, it was revealed today that the duchess brought along a loaf of homemade banana bread to a farm in Dubbo, Australia. She baked it last night—despite any jet lag—after a full day of appearances, in the kitchen of Sydney’s governor-general. It had some chocolate chips and a hint of ginger.

“She said if you go to someone’s house, you always bring something,” Benita Woodley, one of the family members on the farm, told The Mirror. “She said she was worried about the bananas, that she’d put too many bananas in it. But the duke said there’s never too many bananas.” (Prince Harry, by the way, is a noted banana fan.)

It rained throughout Harry and Meghan’s appearance, which might, at first, seem like a negative. But the region of Dubbo is suffering from a terrible drought. “The rain is a gift!” Harry remarked in a speech to the community. He also urged residents not to dismiss the drought’s emotional toll. “You must not silently suffer,” he said. “Asking for help was one of the best decisions that I ever made.”

Baked goods and inspirational speeches? Sounds like the couple is starting this royal tour right.
