Just call her the Duchess of Success. Long before Meghan Markle was bestowed the title of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex on her wedding day to Prince Harry on May 19, the newest member of the royal family was a passionate advocate for women and human rights worldwide.

Markle’s official biography was released on the British Royal Family’s website as she married Prince Harry this weekend. “The Duchess of Sussex, born Meghan Markle, married Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel, Windsor in May 2018. The couple’s official residence is Kensington Palace. As well as undertaking royal duties in support of The Queen, both in the UK and overseas, The Duchess devotes her time to supporting a number of charities and [organizations],” it reads on the Royal.uk website.

The bio brings up examples of Markle’s awareness from a young age, with a nod to when she protested a sexist dish soap commercial at age 11. The bio also includes mention of her volunteer work, which includes helping out at a soup kitchen from the ages of 13 to 17, as well as her return to the same facility to serve after college at age 22.

“These early experiences helped to shape her lifelong commitment to causes such as social justice and women’s empowerment,” the bio reads.

Of course it wouldn’t be an official royal family bio without a key quote from Markle, herself, which reads: “I am proud to be a woman and a feminist.”

Not much is included about Markle’s history starring in Suits, but the page briefly mentions how she spent some of her free time in Toronto when she wasn’t shooting scenes for the legal drama. “While filming in Toronto, The Duchess actively volunteered at a Canadian soup kitchen from 2011-2013. She also established the program at her place of work to ensure that leftover meals from the set were donated to local homeless shelters,” the bio adds.

Harry and Markle’s charitable interests filtered into their wedding day registry, when the couple opted for a charity registry in lieu of gifts. You can also go that route via The Knot Gifts Back.
