Meghan Markle Debuts a New Spring Dress and Repeats a Familiar Jacket
While Meghan Markle has less than a month to prepare for her upcoming nuptials to Prince Harry, she is making it her mission to ingratiate herself with the British royal family. After stepping out earlier this week at the Commonwealth Youth Forum (in Altuzarra) and a reception at the Royal Aeronautical Society (in Black Halo), the soon-to-be royal debuted a new dress for the new season with blossoming undertones. Markle dressed for today’s Invictus Games Reception (her fiancé Prince Harry is the creator and royal patron of the games) in a floral Self-Portrait dress topped off by a slick Alexander McQueen blazer—a sartorial nod towards her future sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s polished, yet easy, approach to daytime dressing.
Markle’s Self-Portrait dress recalled the silhouette and palette of Middleton’s Rochas dress, which the Duchess of Cambridge sported last May to the Chelsea Flower Show. The green, white, and black dress featured a ruffled placket below the bust for a clever design detail, but the pleated finish was both elegant and regal. Amping up the effect was a tailored McQueen jacket (first sported by Markle at the Endeavour Fund Awards in February), while simple Manolo Blahnik stilettos grounded the look with quiet sophistication.
