"The cookbook is a captivating collection of stories and recipes from renowned chefs, local cooks, and friends of the global nonprofit, which feeds communities impacted by natural disasters and humanitarian crises," Archewell shared in a statement when the cookbook was announced in March 2023. "All author proceeds will support WCK’s emergency response efforts, and Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex is proud to have contributed a recipe."

Meghan's lemon olive oil cake was in the news two years ago, when she baked a cake—with lemons from her home garden—for female restaurateurs in Chicago. She wrote at the time, "Sometimes we overlook how much it matters to express thanks and show appreciation. Perhaps we realize now more than ever that fundamental human moments, like enjoying a meal together, fill us up with more than just food (even if that food is delicious!). To that point, we hope you enjoy the offering we baked for you—a small token of thanks, from our home to yours. Our hope with this effort is to show that, when we all participate, even the smallest actions can have a ripple effect. Even individual actions can impact the whole of us."

Archewell and the World Central Kitchen have worked together for some time now, first partnering in December 2020. Andrés has been open about their partnership; last year, he told People, "I love them. I have been able to spend time with them, working with them and they are very hands-on and highly knowledgeable of what's happening in the world, what the issues are, and what the needs are."

He added, "For me, it is a pleasure to call them friends."

Other contributors to Andrés's The World Central Kitchen Cookbook include Michelle Obama (who wrote up her breakfast tacos recipe!), Guy Fieri, and Ayesha Curry. "Recipes from WCK chefs, our friends & supporters, and a few from myself, too, make this truly a book by so many," he wrote on Instagram. "Together, we can keep building longer tables."
