Meghan Markle’s Australia Tour Is a Celebration of Local Fashion Talent
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, continued to champion local talent and ethical fashion on her first royal tour.
Meghan Markle arrived earlier today in Melbourne and started her day with a reception, for which she chose to wear local designerDion Lee. Later, she changed into Club Monaco’s button-trimmed LBD—it retails for $268—and sustainable Rothy’s flats. These latest outfits show the Duchess’s continued efforts to embrace homegrown talent—much like former First Lady Michelle Obama, who often paid homage to host nations in domestic designs—as well as price- and eco-conscious items.
Notably, Markle’s pregnancy bump could be seen particularly in the Club Monaco piece. The button-trimmed sheath had a similar silhouette as the Karen Gee dress from her first official outing in Australia, while her shoes, made from recycled plastic water bottles, nearly stole the show as another indication that Markle is using her position to spotlight ethical fashion.
