Meghan Markle's Wedding Dress: See the Givenchy Gown
At long last: After months of anticipation and speculation, the designer of Meghan Markle's wedding dress has been revealed—and it's Givenchy couture by Claire Waight Keller.
According to Kensington Palace, the soon-to-be Duchess of Sussex opted for a streamlined, long-sleeved gown with a bateau neck by the British-born designer, who just year became the first-ever female creative director of Givenchy.
"After meeting Ms. Waight Keller in early 2018, Ms. Markle chose to work with her for her timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour," the Palace said in a statement. "Ms. Markle also wanted to highlight the success of a leading British talent who has now served as the creative head of three globally influential fashion houses—Pringle of Scotland, Chloé, and now Givenchy."
"The dress epitomises a timeless minimal elegance referencing the codes of the iconic House of Givenchy and showcasing the expert craftsmanship of its world-renowned Parisian couture atelier founded in 1952," according to the statement.
Though the royal family paid for the wedding itself, it's understood that Markle funded her own wedding dress, according to multiple outlets. (Per CNN, it's believed that Kate Middleton's family paid for her custom Alexander McQueen gown.)
Her friend Priyanka Chopra all-but-confirmed that Markle cried when she finally landed on The Dress while in the hot seat on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live.

Back in 2016, Glamour interviewed Markle—pre-Prince Harry, at the height of Suits, when her character Rachel Zane was shopping for a wedding dress herself. At the time, she said she "[preferred] wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic. Delphine Manivet and Christos Costarellos are faves of mine for their uniqueness and beauty. And I will always be a fan of Ellie Saab. J. Mendel is spectacular as well, especially for more structural designs."
And as for her second dress? Well, we'll just have to wait and see... Luckily, it won't be six months this time.
