Meghan Markle's "Something Blue" Had a Secret Meaning
Ahead of the royal wedding earlier this year, there were plenty of speculations regarding Meghan Markle’s wedding dress. Would it have long sleeves? Will it feature a classic silhouette? Will there be more than one?!
Of course, all the rumors were put to rest after Meghan and Prince Harry tied the knot on May 19, and we now know that the newly minted Duchess of Sussex stepped out in a beautiful Givenchy long-sleeved gown. (And yes, she did have a royal outfit change for the wedding reception, opting for a high-neck Stella McCartney dress to celebrate their marriage.)
Now, new details about Meghan’s bridal attire have emerged — and it turns out that there was a really sweet detail hidden in her veil.
As noted by People, a preview for the upcoming HBO documentary Queen of the World reveals that Meghan’s “something blue” was stitched into her veil — and the significance behind it is even more romantic than you might imagine. “Somewhere in here there’s a piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside — it was my something blue,” Meghan says in the clip. “It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date.” Talk about bringing everything full circle!
This wouldn’t be the first time that Meghan has possibly offered a silent nod to Harry through fashion. In July, the Duchess attended Wimbledon (alongside sister-in-law Kate Middleton) while wearing a perfectly summery Ralph Lauren ensemble. The choice of designer might not have been a coincidence; Meghan was a guest of Ralph Lauren’s at Wimbledon in 2016, which was reportedly where her friend (and Ralph Lauren employee) Violet von Westenholz decided to set her up with Harry. The rest, of course, is history!
Whether or not all of her outfits have secret meanings (and plenty have been the subject of debate), it’s clear that Meghan and Harry have an unlimited amount of royal love for one another…and that they’ll never forget their first date.
